PENETRATIONS

IBC 2012, Section 714.3.1.2 Through-Penetration Firestop System. Through penetrations shall be protected by an approved penetrations firestop system installed as tested in accordance with ASTM E814 or UL1479, with a minimum positive pressure differential of 0.01 in (2.49 Pa) of water and shall have an F rating of not less than the required fire-resistance rating of the wall penetrated.

IBC 2012, Section 714.5 Penetrations in Smoke Barriers. Penetrations in smoke barriers shall be be protected by an approved through-penetration firestop system installed and tested in accordance with UL1479 for air leakage.


FIRE-RESISTIVE JOINT SYSTEMS

IBC 2012, Section 715.1 General. Joints installed in or between fire-resistance-rated walls, floor or floor/ceiling assemblies shall be protected by an approved fire-resistant joint system designed to resist the passage of fire for a time period not less than the required fire-resistance rating of the wall, floor or roof in or between which it is installed. Fire-resistant joint systems shall be tested in accordance with Section 715.3.

IBC 2012, Section 715.3 Fire Test Criteria. Fire-resistant joint systems shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of either ASTM E1966 or UL2079.

IBC 2012, Section 715.6 Fire-Resistive Joint Systems in Smoke Barriers. Fire-resistant joint systems in smoke barriers, and joints at the intersection of a horizontal smoke barrier and an exterior curtainwall, shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of UL2079 for air leakage.
